The “Ipnormal Brain”

Frankenstein compilation

These film sequences were made and edited by the wonderful Wrench & Franks, animators extraordinaire. They also designed the sets for Withering Looks, Margaret III and Knit One MUrder One. The film was made in Greenwich as a co-production with Greenwich Theatre. We had volunteer members of the community who had lots of fun playing an angry mob and brandishing pitchforks. The monster was played by Matthew Vaughan who was Marmee in Very Little Women and Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest

Maggie and I were the “wimps” in question, unable to cope with horror movies in any shape or form. So how did we research this project? We watched films mid-afternoon to be less scary. Even so we still had to reach for the sofa cushions as we watched Jack Nicholson axe down the door in The Shining. This was a co-production with Greenwich Theatre and all the Frankenstein sequences were filmed on Blackheath. At one point we had an angry mob run up a hill brandishing pitchforks. We were concerned for one elderly gentleman called Ian who was 99 and suggested he join the mob at the top of the hill, but he pointed out that he had been in the SAS and had no intention of skipping the uphill pursuit. You can see him at the front of the mob in the film clip.
